Doublet was founded in 2012 in Japan by Masayuki Ino with his pattern maker Takashi Murakami. Doublet showed their first collection at Tokyo Fashion Week in 2013 for Spring Summer. The brand name was inspired by the writer Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland, who invented the word doublet as an alternative name for ‘word puzzle.‘ The first Doublet collections were reminiscent of traditional menswear, wool jackets, preppy sweaters and tailored pants. A few seasons later Ino decided to change the brand’s direction from classic styles to 100 percent streetwear.
