Sacai for Women

Sacai works by splicing. Chitose Abe takes two familiar garments, a MA-1 and a trench, a crewneck and a pleated skirt, then cuts them apart and rebuilds them as one piece with both patterns intact. The women's range at MARAIS gathers that thinking across outerwear, knitwear and accessories, with Women Sacai Clothing holding the hybrid jackets and dresses the house is asked for by name.

Sacai: One Garment, Two Ideas

Chitose Abe founded Sacai in Tokyo in 1999 after working at Comme des Garçons and Junya Watanabe, and the house has kept a single method ever since. Two garments are cut apart and rejoined so both remain readable: a wool blazer front running into a nylon bomber back, a ribbed knit finishing in accordion pleats. The construction is the design, which is why a Sacai piece rarely needs anything else in the outfit to explain it.

The Sacai Women's Collection at MARAIS

Outerwear is where most customers start. Women Sacai Clothing carries the spliced jackets, layered knitwear and pleated separates, along with the shirting that reads plain from the front and unusual from the back. The full house edit across both genders sits in SACAI.

Footwear, Bags and Collaborations

Sacai's collaborations are part of the record rather than a sideline. sacai x Carhartt WIP applies the splice to workwear, while sacai x WTAPS runs it through military patterning. Footwear sits in Sacai Women Shoes, with leather goods in women Sacai Bags and smaller pieces in Women Sacai Accessories.

Sacai FAQs

How does Sacai sizing work?

Sacai uses Japanese sizing, where 1 is roughly an AU 8 and 2 roughly an AU 10, though hybrid construction means the fit varies by style. Product pages list the measurements for each piece we hold.

What is Sacai best known for?

Spliced hybrid garments: two different pieces cut and rejoined so both patterns stay visible, most recognisably in the jackets and pleated knitwear.

Who designs Sacai?

Chitose Abe, who founded the label in 1999 and has led it since.
