Facetasm: Deconstructed Tokyo Tailoring

Founded in 2007 by Hiromichi Ochiai, Facetasm emerged from Tokyo as one of Japan's most quietly influential labels. The name draws on the word facet, a single side of a many-sided cut gem, and that idea runs through everything Ochiai makes: familiar garments taken apart and reassembled into something entirely new. A jacket carries a shirt within it, a knit is wrapped in a scarf, trousers are layered with the suggestion of a skirt. The result is a wardrobe that rewards a second look.

From Tokyo to the World Stage

Ochiai trained at Bunka Fashion College before launching the label, and his hybrid approach soon drew international attention. In 2016 he became the first Japanese designer named a finalist for the LVMH Prize, and Facetasm has since become a regular fixture on the Paris menswear schedule. The aesthetic remains unmistakably Tokyo: precise tailoring, considered layering and a playful disregard for the usual rules of dressing.
