The KENZO Story: Paris by Way of Tokyo
KENZO was founded in 1970 by Kenzo Takada, the Japanese designer who arrived in Paris in 1964 and opened his first boutique in the Galerie Vivienne. Takada brought a fresh eye to French fashion, layering Asian influences and bold, hand-drawn prints over the structured silhouettes of European couture. His voluminous "Big Look" of the mid-1970s helped redefine the decade, and his love of floral and animal motifs became enduring house signatures.
A Heritage Reimagined Under Nigo
Since 2021, artistic director Nigo, the Japanese designer behind A Bathing Ape, has guided KENZO into a new chapter. He refreshed the house codes with graphic energy, introducing the Boke Flower emblem and reinterpreting the celebrated tiger in fresh, contemporary forms. The result is a collection that honours Takada's optimism while speaking fluently to modern luxury and streetwear alike.
