Men Hoka Shoes

HOKA footwear is built around one idea: a midsole roughly twice the usual volume, shaped into a rocker that rolls the foot through each step. Engineered in the French Alps in 2009 to carry runners downhill faster, it now underpins a range that reaches well past the trail. The men's shoes stocked here are the Clifton UTL and the Tor Summit FLD, both cut for rougher ground than the road models. See the brand in full on our men's HOKA page.

Every HOKA shoe starts at the sole. Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard, both formerly of Salomon, wanted to descend faster, so in 2009 they built a shoe with far more foam than convention allowed and a rounded rocker profile that keeps the foot moving forward instead of braking. Ultra runners took it up first, Deckers Brands acquired the label in 2013, and the proportions have since become a look in their own right.

The men's shoes in this edit sit at the utility end of that range. The Clifton UTL reworks HOKA's best known road silhouette for rougher ground, keeping the light, high volume midsole while adding a more robust upper and a grippier outsole, and it is stocked here in black and in cosmic grey. The Tor Summit FLD is the more technical of the two, taller through the platform and drawn from the brand's trail and hiking lineage, for anyone who wants the engineering without the running shoe finish.

Both run on a standard men's sizing scale, and both suit a wider foot better than a slim leather court shoe will. The volume of the sole is the point, so they sit best with denim or a relaxed trouser that lets the platform read. Colourways here reflect what is in stock now rather than the brand's full catalogue, so the edit shifts as each delivery lands.
